Нил Гейман о викторианском грошовом чтиве

I remember reading the 1880s Sweeney Todd penny dreadful, which wasn’t the first version of the story but is definitely the longest. The guy obviously had to do 12,000 words a month or 12,000 a week, it’s a little unclear at what interval they came out. And this thing is enormous. There was a point in the middle of one where he obviously ran out of things to say and he has all his characters go to the zoo, which at that time was the Tower of London, and they just obviously transcribed a catalogue of what they would have seen there. My heart bled for him across the generations.
