It was recommended to me by friends Roz Kaveney and Neil Gaiman. For people who haven’t read Lud in the Mist, it’s an English fantasy published in 1926, about a town that stands on the borders between the world of men and Faerie, and the citizens’ fear of fairy influence. Here’s a very comprehensive review and information about the author.
My thoughts about it were that I liked it, but it didn’t quite possess my soul the way it did with some of my friends. Possibly I read it at the wrong age — in my late 30s. Perhaps it would have been different if I’d read it as a teenager. That said, there were scenes and ideas and a sort of atmosphere that have remained with me. It’s a book like no other that I know.
